Dodgers Rumors: Team Showed Interest In Zack Greinke According To Fox Sports

One of the biggest problems the Dodgers have had this season has been starting pitching. In the middle of the season, MVP Clayton Kershaw was placed on the disabled list and things haven’t been the same since. Luckily, rookies like Ross Stripling and Julio Urias have been able to hold down the fort. Apparently the front office has finally had enough of the starting pitching woes and has been looking at the market.

On Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports announced that the Dodgers had shown interest in Zack Greinke, though the two teams were not able to reach a deal.

It’s not going to happen, not yet and maybe not ever. But the Dodgers expressed interest in trading for the Diamondbacks right-hander before Wednesday night’s deadline for players to become eligible for postseason rosters, according to major-league sources.

Zack Greinke has been struggling this year with the Diamondbacks, posting up a 4.17 ERA with 12 wins and 4 losses. To top things off, he suffered a left oblique strain injury this season which put him on the disabled list for a little over a month.

So I know what you’re thinking, “Why would we want Zack Greinke if he isn’t pitching well and he was just injured?” Well, these two facts have decreased his value quite a bit, thus making him very affordable compared to his ridiculous salary that the Diamondbacks owe him.

This also probably factors into why a deal was not made. There must have been no middle ground found between the Diamondbacks not wanting to lose money and the Dodgers not wanting to overspend. Regardless, the talent that Greinke once had with the Dodgers is undeniable. As you can see below, some of his best years were with the Dodgers!

Like Ken Rosenthal said, a deal can still be possibly made in the off-season if the two teams can come to an agreement. However, the good news in all of this is that the front office recognizes that they need to do something about their starting pitching dilemma. Many fans have been begging to see Jose De Leon pitch in the majors. Could this mean his time is coming? I guess all we can do is wait and see!

  1. I can see Arizona trying to move Greinke after the year, but it won’t be to LA, because they aren’t going to be willing to eat much of the money, and Greinke of 2016 doesn’t look like he’s worth anything near 150 million over next 5 years.  I never expected him to match his 2015 season, but he’s not come close.

  2. Although I knew that conditions in AZ were not going to be right for Zack, I wished him well.  With that said, he will never be the same pitcher until he returns to the “friendly confines” of pitching in Dodger Blue.  I see the Dodgers moving forward with a rotation of Kersh, DeLeon, Urias, Greinke, Stewart.  If we learned anything from the post-season, having starting pitchers that can’t go 3 innings is a joke.

Can’t stand to watch when a pitcher can’t finish what he started!!
