Dodgers Rumors: Trade For Matt Kemp Comes With ‘High Pricetag’

[new_royalslider id=”6″] The Los Angeles Dodgers tied a few loose ends in their front office on Tuesday with four new hires that includes two personnel members leaving the Boston Red Sox for Los Angeles.

While the Dodgers’ front office has been the story thus far in the offseason, they reportedly are attempting to trade for Chicago White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez and are shopping their outfielders, with the exception being Yasiel Puig.

After a slow start in 2014, Matt Kemp became a consistent threat in the second half of the season. As a result, Kemp has drawn trade interest, though no one particular team has been identified as a suitor.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Dodgers are seeking a large return if they were to part ways with the 2011 NL MVP runner-up:

Among the group of Dodger outfielders on the market, Kemp likely has the biggest trade value. He’s owed a guaranteed $107 million in the next five years, but is the youngest among Carl Crawford and Andre Ethier.

Kemp had a slash of .309/.365/.606 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs post All-Star break and helped fill the Dodgers’ need of a power right-handed bat as Hanley Ramirez and Yasiel Puig went through their respective lulls at the plate.

Given how the outfield shook out last season, Ethier figures to be the outfielder the Dodgers would prefer to move. Despite his versatility in being able to play all three outfield positions, Ethier was relegated to a role off the bench that he wasn’t pleased with but accepted.

Should Kemp wind up being traded, it would be in the Dodgers’ best interest they receive a power bat on the right side as part of the deal. Under the current roster construction, they would otherwise be left to rely on Puig and perhaps Juan Uribe as their big right-handed bats.

  1. Like the man said…the price would be high…no way they make a 1 for 1 deal.

  2. Be something if it did happen and the Dodgers got Scherzer and Might or Austin Jackson. I don’t want to see it, but it only seems like a “good” deal. They need to get a package deal for a good hitting catcher. Hamlet or no Hanley, Dee can play short and so can Justin Turner….they can play both positions. Scotty would have to bring back somebody like Ben Zobrist or another utility guy.
