Dodgers Set World Series Pitching Rotation, Optimistic About Corey Seager’s Return

The Los Angeles Dodgers have set their starting pitching rotation for the first four games of the 2017 World Series. They’ve decided to stick with the order that the team used in the NLDS and NLCS, which was clearly very successful.

Clayton Kershaw will kick things off for Game 1 and Rich Hill will get the start in Game 2. As for the Astros, Dallas Keuchel will start Game 1 and Justin Verlander will make his fifth appearance of the postseason in Game 2. The Dodgers haven’t faced Houston in 2017, but they did get a glimpse of Justin Verlander when he was on the Detroit Tigers.

Verlander pitched against the Dodgers on August 20th and put a solid outing together by only allowing two hits in eight innings of work. He struck out nine baters that day and gave up just one run. It won’t be easy, but hopefully the Dodgers can apply pressure by tallying extra-base hits and getting runners on base throughout that matchup.

Yu Darvish will get the nod for Game 3 and Alex Wood will take the ball for Game 4. I would imagine that Kershaw will pitch Game 5, if necessary, but the Dodgers have not officially announced anything. The Astros haven’t released their information in regards to Game 3 or Game 4, but Charlie Morton and Lance McCullers Jr. will probably end up being the starters for those games.

These starting pitching matchups are as good as they get in the game of baseball, and that’s why these teams have made it to the World Series. However, the position players on both sides are just as important. One player who the Dodgers are still counting on being back for the World Series is Corey Seager.

The Dodgers have been able to plug-and-play a handful of players throughout the regular season, especially at shortstop. Corey Seager’s status is still up in the air, but they feel good about him playing in the World Series. He participated in the Dodgers workout today and simulated live at-bats by practicing against pitcher Hyun-jin Ryu.

However, the good news about Seager shouldn’t keep shortstop Charlie Culberson away from appearing on the World Series roster.

Culberson had a remarkable NLCS by making a positive impact defensively and going 5-11 at the plate, with two runs scored and one run batted in. The Dodgers are fortunate to have a reliable option like him in the clubhouse, and he’ll have to be ready to play just in case Seager re-aggravates that back injury. Away games in Houston will also call for a designated hitter, which is another way Culberson could see playing time should Seager be the Dodgers’ D.H.

We will continue to update you on Corey Seager’s health as soon as more information becomes available!
