Dodgers Sign Reliever Ramon Troncoso To Minor-League Deal

Ramon Troncoso
One of the biggest weaknesses in the past couple years for the Los Angeles Dodgers was a lack of depth throughout the organization.

An injury or two to the Dodgers would send a ripple effect throughout the entire farm system, whether by promotion or trades that involved young prospects. When Josh Beckett and Paul Maholm went down with injuries last season, general manager Ned Colletti was forced to trade for Roberto Hernandez and Kevin Correia instead of addressing the injuries through the farm system. With Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi taking over this winter, the Dodgers have made a series of moves, big and small, that have addressed the lack of depth.

This past week, they made another one of those small moves, signing a former Dodgers to a minor-league deal according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America:

Los Angeles Dodgers
Signed: RHP Ramon Troncoso (released by Royals, July 10)

Troncoso last pitched in the big leagues in 2013 with the Chicago White Sox. The right-hander made his debut with the Dodgers back in 2008. He spent the next four years in the bullpen with the team. His best year came in 2009, when he appeared in 73 games (82.2 innings) and finished with a 2.72 ERA. In 2012, Troncoso was designated for assignment before the season and spent the entire year in Triple-A.

After his time with the Dodgers, he signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox and ended up making the club in June. He was released after the season and signed another minor-league deal with the Kansas City Royals. The 31-year-old was released last July.

Without an invite to Spring Training, it would appear Troncoso will stay in the minors if he decides to stick with the Dodgers. Any injury to a reliever could cause him to be promoted.

  1. Amen thats a reach.. How are they going to evaluate all these scrubs? And where are they finding them all.

    1. There will be a ton of intra squad games……and maybe one has a shot of making the team. None of the position players has a prayer.
