Dodgers Spring Training: Urias Throws First Bullpen Session (VIDEO)

Of the group of non-roster invites with the Los Angeles Dodgers for Spring Training, the marquee names are Corey Seager and Julio Urias. Both are prospects in the Minor League system that have drawn rave reviews and were included in essentially every publication’s ranking of top prospects.

At just 17 years old, Urias began his second season with the Dodgers, though his first at High-A Rancho Cucamonga. Pitching under a watchful eye, Urias started 20 of his 25 games and never threw more than 5.1 innings in any of his outings.

After turning 18 years old on Aug. 12, Urias went 1-0 with a 0.44 ERA, 31 strikeouts and .143 batting average against in four starts (20.1 innings) to round out the 2014 season. Much has been made of the talented left-hander with some analysts stating he was capable of pitching in the Majors last season.

While Urias has turned plenty of heads, the Dodgers by no means are rushing him along, which Urias has stated he’s ok with and understands. Participating in his first big league camp, Urias was among the pitchers to throw their bullpen session on Saturday.
