Dodgers’ Starting Pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu Recovers From Elbow Surgery
On Wednesday, Hyun-Jin Ryu underwent an arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow to clean out damaged tissue. Ryu attempted to make a comeback in July but wasn’t successful and found himself back on the disabled list.
Dodger fans haven’t seen much of a complete bullpen this season with many of the pitchers out on the disabled list. After being out the entire 2015 season for shoulder surgery, the starting pitcher was expected to return this season however, that hasn’t been the case.
Hyun-Jin Ryu had arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow today. He had shoulder surgery last year and has pitched once in MLB in 2015-16.

In his 2014 season, Ryu held a 3.38 ERA and 14-7 record. He has only pitched once in the 2015 and 2016 seasons combined and didn’t leave fans hopeful for a healthy return after he gave up six runs in less than five innings in an appearance this season on July 7, against the San Diego Padres.
In 2013, Ryu signed a contract with the Dodgers through 2018 and was originally regarded as the star pitcher behind fellow elites Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke. With his recent surgery, Ryu will clearly be out for the remainder of this season with an expected return for 2017.
Let’s not forget Ryu was expected to return this year as well after his shoulder recovery, so let’s just hope his elbow recovery goes much smoother allowing him to make a strong comeback next season, regaining his position among the pitchers.

Would love to see a healthy Ryu but let’s not make this another multi-season project. We have too many good young arms waiting in the wings to continue the wait and see healing game we have been playing the past 2 years.
