Dodgers to Sign Jerry Hairston, Jr

Written by on December 5, 2011 in Editorials - No comments

SI.com’s Jon Heyman tweets that the Dodgers are now on the verge of signing free agent Jerry Hairston to a two-year/$6 million contract.

The deal is done as his physical has been completed.

As early as this morning, the Dodgers were one of three teams said to be out on Hairston, who turns 36 in May.

Hairston is capable of playing in both the infield and outfield.

The journeyman has played for five teams in the last three seasons (Brewers, Nationals, Padres, Yankees and Reds).

Last season, while splitting time with both the Nationals and Brewers, Hairston hit .270 with five home runs and 31 RBIs.

Hairston posts numbers of .246/.283/.404 at Dodger Stadium in 19 games played. He has hit two home runs there; one coming last season.

Hairston’s true value comes from his versatility. In 2011, he played at second base, shortstop, third base, left field and center field.

Hairston made $2 million last season.
