Dodgers’ Veterans Batting Practice A Huge Hit | Gallery

Any trip to Dodger Stadium is a day well-spent. When said trip involves walking on the field, taking ground balls, throwing in the bullpen and taking batting practice at home plate, the trip goes from well-spent to flat out special.

As was the case for 300 military veterans who were invited to the park Wednesday afternoon for the Dodgers’ Veterans Day Batting Practice event. In attendance: Dodger Alumni Billy Ashley, Al Downing and Roy Gleason and Dodger Special Advisor Don Newcombe.

Kenley Jansen, who was at the park for conditioning, also took in the festivities before getting to work. He ran the stairs as the batting practice took place on the field.

“It’s just great to be here for them. They’ve given so much for us, I just want to give back,” he said.

Gilbert Rojas, 41, an Army veteran was absolutely thrilled to take part in the batting practice.

“It’s an honor for me. My grandma was a fan. My dad was a fan. They both served and they would be honored by this, too. For me, it’s like my fifteen minutes of fame to get to walk on the field and see what this is like.”Days

Days like Wednesday just go to show the personal investment the Dodgers put into the community. The viibe was tremendous. Here are a few pictures we were able to snap:
