Dodgers Video: Corey Seager Hits First Home Run With Double-A Tulsa

Factoring into the Los Angeles Dodgers’ decision to not aggressively pursue re-signing Hanley Ramirez during the offseason is the presence of Corey Seager, who’s been pegged as a franchise cornerstone at shortstop.

Seager was in his first big league camp with the Dodgers this year and despite his young age, showed impressive composure in the clubhouse and at the plate. Appearing in 14 Cactus League games, he hit .333/.500/.500 with four RBIs and seven walks.

While the expectation is for Seager to reach the Majors sooner rather than later, he opened the 2015 season with Double-A Tulsa; he finished 2014 at the Double-A level, though the Dodgers’ affiliate at the time was with the Chattanooga Lookouts.

After being promoted to the Lookouts last season, Seager hit .345/.381/.534 with 16 doubles and 27 RBIs. Through six games with the Drillers this season, the 20-year-old shortstop has picked up where he left off.

Seager is batting a blistering .583/.560/.750 (14-for-24) and has six RBIs. He’s only been held hitless in one game and has had at least three hits in a game three times, with one a four-hit game.

While Seager has been spraying the field, he had only one extra-base hit — a double on April 9 — heading into Tuesday’s game. He added to that by hitting his first home run in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie.
