For the most part, when you see a friendship develop between two teammates there are some noticeable similarities between the two that forge the bond. Sometimes they’re from the same country, other times they rose through the Minor League ranks together, or perhaps they share similar interests and hobbies off the field.

When it came to the relationship that formed between Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu and third baseman Juan Uribe, however, all of the aforementioned perceptions went out the window. You could probably look for any variation of two Dodgers players and not find a more unlikely bond than the often-hilarious friendship between Ryu and Uribe.

Ryu has a Korean-to-English translator designated to him by the team, while the Dominican native Uribe could arguably benefit from one who translates Spanish-to-English. Despite that and other glaring differences, any time the two were on-screen together — whether on social media or via a Vin Scully-narrated moment on television — it was comedic gold.

With Ryu already lost for the season due to shoulder surgery, the pair was further separated when Uribe was officially traded Wednesday to the Atlanta Braves. So to commemorate, here are some of the best moments between Ryu and Papi, via Brian Quon on YouTube:
