Clayton Kershaw took the mound Sunday afternoon at Coors Field amid frigid temperatures and in search of his 100th career win. He allowed five runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings and collected his 1,500th career strikeout but again was denied career win No. 100.

While Kershaw failed to reach his personal milestone, the Dodgers battled back from a deficit to sweep the abridged two-game series with the Colorado Rockies. After tying the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth, both the Dodgers and Rockies failed to score over the next two innings.

Beginning with a Kiké Hernandez leadoff single in the eighth, the Dodgers finally managed to break through. With one out and Hernandez in standing in scoring position, Justin Turner was called on to pinch hit for Pedro Baez.

Scott Oberg’s first pitch to Turner got by Nick Hundley, which allowed Hernandez to take third base. Oberg had worse luck on his next pitch as Turner deposited into the Dodgers bullpen beyond the right-center field fence to give the Dodgers a 7-5 lead.

The pinch-hit home run was Turner’s fourth this season, fifth overall and increased his RBI total to 12.
