The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the game trying to win the home and home series against the Los Angeles Angels. Dan Haren was able to win the first game at Angel Stadium Wednesday night as Hyun-Jin Ryu looked to get the victory Thursday.

Ryu began strong by retiring the first eight batters he faced. The Dodger offense gave him some run support in the third inning. With the bases loaded with one out, Hanley Ramirez singled to center to send Justin Turner and Yasiel Puig home. Another run was added when Adrian Gonzalez scored on a sacrifice fly as the Dodgers took a 3-0 lead.

The defense also came to play Thursday night with Miguel Rojas getting the start at shortstop with Ramirez filling in as the designated hitter.

During the fourth inning, Albert Pujols almost had the first Angel hit of the night until Juan Uribe leaped up and robbed him of an extra base hit. Rojas continued his excellent defense in the fifth fielding two of three outs with the third coming off of a Ryu strikeout.

Uribe helped out Ryu’s cause again in the sixth, but this time, on the offensive side. With two outs in the inning, he hit a double to center which allowed Matt Kemp to score from first for the Dodgers’ fourth run on Angel starter, C.J. Wilson.

Wilson only lasted one more batter and was replaced by Cory Rasmus after giving up a walk to A.J. Ellis. Rasmus ended the Dodger threat by getting Rojas to foul out to first.

Rojas made another nice defensive play in the bottom half of the inning to get Colin Cowgill out on a close play. After Mike Trout and Pujols provided a quick scare for Ryu and the Dodgers, Puig bailed the team out making a play of his own by making a spectacular catch at the wall to get Josh Hamilton for the third out.

The Dodgers added to their lead in the eighth off of a Gonzalez single scoring A.J. Ellis and Rojas. As the top half of the inning ended, Matt Kemp was ejected after arguing a call, but the Dodgers still lead 6-0. Jamey Wright came in to relieve Ryu and retired all three Angel batters he faced.

In the top of the ninth, Crawford reached base on an error before Uribe and Ellis both struck out. Rojas followed with an RBI single to make it 7-0. Turner ended the inning with a fly out to right.

Pedro Baez took the mound for the bottom of the ninth. He walked Trout after a full count, but got Pujols to ground into a double play. Baez struck out Hamilton to end the game.
