The Los Angeles Dodgers began their final series this season in Arizona looking to bounce back from being soundly defeated by the New York Mets on Sunday.

Matt Kemp got the Dodgers off on the right foot with a two-run home run in the first inning to give them an early lead. Roberto Hernandez allowed a pair of one-out singles in the bottom of the inning, but got out of it without allowing a run.

Hernandez wasn’t as fortunate in the second inning as Ender Inciarte hit a two-run single with two outs to tie the game. The score remained tied until the Dodgers roughed up Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill in the fourth inning.

The inning began with Cahill issuing consecutive walks to Adrian Gonzalez and Kemp. After a Hanley Ramirez strikeout, Carl Crawford hit an RBI single and the Dodgers took a 3-2 lead. Justin Turner followed with an RBI single of his own to extend the Dodgers’ lead.

With runners on first and second, A.J. Ellis singled to left that scored Crawford, though he was initially ruled out at home plate. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly challenged the call and Crawford was ruled safe on a Miguel Montero error — the ball arrived in time, but Montero applied the tag with the glove while holding the ball in his bare (right) hand.
