After Jacob deGrom tossed a hitless inning for the New York Mets, Hyun-Jin Ryu took the mound for the first time since being placed on the disabled list back on May 2. The Dodger left-hander gave up just one hit to Daniel Murphy while striking out two batters in his first inning of work.

Heading into the second, Adrian Gonzalez hit a leadoff home run to put the Dodgers on the board early in the game. After giving up the home run, deGrom regained composure as he retired the following three Dodgers in order. Ryu logged his third and fourth strikeouts of the game in the bottom of the second, while allowing only a single to Wilmer Flores.

A.J. Ellis drew a walk to begin the third, but was left on first after Dee Gordon hit a line drive that was turned into a double play. Ryu logged another two-strikeout inning but not without some difficulty. Juan Lagares and David Wright both hit singles, and Ryu proceeded to walk Chris Young to load the bases. The Dodger starter managed to hold the Mets at zero runs heading into the fourth.

After striking out Yasiel Puig, deGrom walked Hanley Ramirez, who was thrown out in his attempt to steal second. Gonzalez grounded out for the final out. Ryu then breezed through the bottom of the fourth, retiring the batters in order. Matt Kemp hit a line drive deep to left field for a double to begin the fifth. Carl Crawford and Justin Turner both grounded out but Kemp remained on second. The Mets starter intentionally walked Ellis, and Ryu lined out as Kemp was left on base. After giving up a leadoff single to deGrom, Ryu forced the following batter into a double play as he comfortably finished off the fifth.

In the sixth, Puig and Ramirez hit back-to-back hit solo home runs to give the Dodgers a 3-0 advantage. Eric Campbell responded with a two-run homer as the Mets trailed the Dodgers by just one run in the bottom of the sixth, which was Ryu’s final inning of work. Carlos Torres replaced deGrom in the seventh and retired the Dodgers in order, and Brandon League took over for Ryu. With a runner on first, Puig had the opportunity to log the final as he dove for a fly ball that dropped beneath his glove. League then got Young to groundout to put another scoreless inning on the board.

Torres was replaced by Jeurys Familia in the eighth, and the right-hander gave up a leadoff double to pinch-hitter Chone Figgins. After a sac-bunt from Gordon, Figgins advanced to third and Puig followed with a walk. Ramirez hit into a fielder’s choice that Figgins scored on for the Dodgers’ fourth run of the game. Scott Rice took over for Familia and recorded the final out while Brian Wilson took the mound in the bottom of the eighth. The struggling reliever allowed just one hit in a scoreless outing.

Jenrry Mejia took the mound for the Mets in the ninth and retired the Dodgers in order. New York gave their last efforts in the bottom of the ninth against Kenley Jansen. The Dodgers closer gave up a triple to Juan Lagares, and Murphy grounded out to send Lagares home as the Mets inched within one run of the Dodgers. Jansen was able to maintain the Dodgers’ lead as he struck out Wright for the final out as the Dodgers defeated the Mets 4-3.
