Dodgers Vs. Nationals Preview: Carlos Frias Makes First Start

After the Los Angeles Dodgers earned a 4-1 victory on Tuesday, they now look to win the series in the rubber match. After receiving yet another dominant performance from Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers now hand the ball to a rookie for his first career start.

With Dan Haren getting his start pushed back to Friday, Carlos Frias takes the mound in the afternoon game. While Wednesday marks Frias’ first start, he’s appeared in eight games for the Dodgers this season.



In 14.1 innings pitched, the right-hander has allowed 13 hits, nine earned runs and issued two walks.

An area that the 24 year old is excelling in is strikeouts. In his outings, Frias has racked up 10 strikeouts, with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5-1. He’s yet to face the Nationals in his brief career and the Dodgers look to match power for power to try to come away victorious.

Making the start for the Nationals is Jordan Zimmerman. In 27 starts, the right-handed pitcher is 10-5 with a 2.93 ERA. Zimmerman is 4-0 in his last six starts.

In his career, the 28 year old has made five starts against the Dodgers. In those games, the five-year veteran is 2-1 with 5.61 ERA. In 25.2 innings pitched, the Dodgers have 34 hits and 16 runs off of Zimmerman.

In Zimmerman’s lone start against the Dodgers this season, he allowed five hits and zero earned runs in four innings pitched.

Tim Federowicz starts behind the plate, and Justin Turner takes over at third base. Yasiel Puig returns to the lineup, though in right field as Joc Pederson earns another start in center.

  1. If no dodgers on TV next year please get someone on radio that can broadcast, charlie, and Monday have to go.the game already is boring on radio.
