The Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals met Wednesday to decide the series winner in a potential postseason matchup. Carlos Frias made his first Major League start and faced Jordan Zimmerman.

Frias started off strong by retiring the first two batters he faced. After giving up a walk to Jayson Werth, he struck out Ian Desmond to end the inning.

In the second inning, Frias allowed back-to-back hits, but escaped the trouble as he retired the next three batters via a strikeout, fly out and ground out. Justin Turner gave the Dodgers their first hit on a two-out single in the bottom of the second.

It was all Zimmermann allowed in the inning however as he caught Joc Pederson looking for the final out. Jayson Werth hit a two-out single in the third, then Frias retired Zimmermann and the game remained scoreless.

The Dodgers offense continued to struggle in the fourth inning, which included Yasiel Puig leading off with a strikeout. Adrian Gonzalez followed with a fly out and Hanley Ramirez ended the inning by striking out looking.

Frias seemed to find his comfort zone as the game wore on. He retired 10 consecutive batters and his day ended after throwing six scoreless innings.

  1. Simply put.. Mattingly has been and will continue to be the problem! It’s time the plug is pulled on this guy! He’s at best an American League bench
