The Los Angeles Dodgers had their three-game winning streak come to an end last night after a 5-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. The Dodgers can still win the series by taking today’s series finale and end their road trip on a bright note.
Zach Greinke will take the mound and try to rebound after giving up a season-high four runs in a 5-4 defeat to the Colorado Rockies last Friday. Greinke is going through a tough stretch right now, going 1-1 with 4.35 ERA in his last three starts. The last time he faced the Reds, Greinke struck out a season-high 11 in a 5-3 Dodgers victory on May 27.
On the hill for the Reds is Alfredo Simon, who was erratic in his last start against the Dodgers, giving up five runs and five walks in only 3.2 innings of work. Simon has since rebounded well by winning his last two starts and giving up a total of three runs against the Philadelphia Phillies.
If the Dodgers are going to win, they’re going to need their offense to come back after being absent in last night’s shutout loss. Andre Ethier fared well in his last meeting with Simon hitting a home run and a triple. Ethier is also 6-for-17 and has hit safely in his last four games.
The Dodgers will play without Hanley Ramirez, who was out of the lineup with AC joint stiffness. Ramirez pinch-hit on Wednesday but bounced into a double play.
Los Angeles is currently in 2nd place and is 7.5 games back of the San Francisco Giants, which are losers of three straight.
