Dodgers Vs. Rockies Recap: Frias Implodes In First Inning

[new_royalslider id=”323″] After splitting the first two games, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies met for the rubber match Wednesday afternoon.

With Hyun-Jin Ryu suffering from shoulder irritation, Carlos Frias made his second career start and he was welcomed by a hitting spree. Charlie Blackmon and Josh Rutledge hit back-to-back singles that were followed by a Justin Morneau three-run home run.

Michale Cuddyer hit a ground-rule double and Corey Dickerson’s single put runners on the corners with no outs. Dickerson was caught stealing and Wilin Rosario added to the lead with an RBI single to right. Frias went on to allow two more runs before being removed with two outs in the inning and the bases loaded.

Morneau’s second at-bat of the inning was a two-RBI single off Scott Elbert and the Rockies led 8-0 after the first inning. Kevin Correia took over for the Dodgers in the third inning and gave up a two-out solo home run to Blackmon.

Adrian Gonzalez hit a leadoff double in the fourth inning, however got caught in a run down for the second out and the Dodgers failed to score. Rosario hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth and Rafael Ynoa’s RBI single gave the Rockies a 12-0 advantage.

After another scoreless inning from Jorge De La Rosa, the Rockies continued to swing hot bats and scored two more runs in the fifth. Daniel Coulombe and a slew of bench players entered the game in the sixth and gave up one unearned run.

Darwin Barney got the Dodgers on the board with a solo home run in the eighth inning that made the score 15-1. Although it didn’t matter much, Yimi Garcia gave the run back in the bottom half of the inning on a Brandon Barnes solo home run.

Rob Scahill stayed on the mound for a second inning of work in the ninth and allowed one run before finishing out the 16-2 win for the Rockies.
