Dodgers Vs. Rockies Recap: Kershaw Gets Win In Weather-Shortened Game

[new_royalslider id=”167″] Colorado Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa was 4-0 during the month of May, but was coming off a loss in his start on June 3. Looking for his second win against the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, De La Rosa had control issues in the first inning.

Facing a lineup without Dee Gordon and Yasiel Puig, De La Rosa walked Chone Figgins and Hanley Ramirez to open the game. The left-hander followed with a strikeout of Adrian Gonzalez, but gave up a triple to Matt Kemp, the outfielder’s second of the series, and the Dodgers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.

Conversely, Clayton Kershaw struck out the side in the bottom of the first and again in the second inning, though the Rockies did manage to get runners on the corners with one out in the second. Figgins singled in the third inning, but was then thrown out trying to take second on a ball that momentarily got away from Nelson Rosario. De La Rosa finished the third by striking out Ramirez and Gonzalez.

Kemp hit a leadoff single in the fourth but was erased from the basepaths on a Scott Van Slyke double play as part of another scoreless inning. Troy Tulowitzki got the Rockies on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run to left field amid rain at Coors Field.

The rain continued in the fifth inning and included lightning and thunderstorms in the area, but play continued. Kershaw struck out De La Rosa in the bottom of the fifth to make it an official game. Ramirez hit a towering home run to left field to extend the Dodgers’ lead to 3-1 in the sixth. De La Rosa walked the next two batters and he was relieved by Matt Belisle.

The pitching change didn’t fare well for the Rockies as Jamie Romak drove in two runs with a double, which was his first career hit and RBIs at the big league level. Miguel Rojas followed with his first hit, an RBI single that gave the Dodgers a 6-1 lead.

The game went into a rain delay before the bottom of the sixth began and play never resumed, which gave the Dodgers a series win and Kershaw a complete-game victory.
