ESPN’s Jayson Stark Has Dodgers As Favorite For Price

Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price was a hot trade target this past winter and that’s carried over into the regular season. And with the trade deadline approaching, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been one team rumored to be interested in acquiring Price.

According to ESPN’s Jayson Stark, one National League Executive said that the Dodgers would trade for Price over any other possible player:

“If they’re going to ante up for anybody,” said one NL exec, “they’re going to do it for Price.”

Part of the reason the Dodgers have yet to trade for Price is they are reluctant to part ways with top prospects Joc Pederson and Corey Seager. Los Angeles has told multiple teams the two players will not be included in any trade; general manager Ned Colletti also publicly said as much.

However, no one can deny that a starting playoff rotation of Price, Clayton Kershaw, and Zack Greinke would be a nightmare for any team in a postseason series. Perhaps even Colletti, who more recently left the door open when again discussing a potential trade for Price.

This season, Price has posted a 10-7 record with a 3.06 ERA, including two complete games. The left-hander was a 20-game winner with a 2.56 ERA in 2012, despite his team missing the playoffs.

Other teams that have been rumored in the Price sweepstakes include the Dodgers’ NL rival, St. Louis Cardinals, and long-time division rival, San Francisco Giants — two teams the Dodgers would least like to see Price play for.

According to Stark, the Seattle Mariners are second to the Dodgers in obtaining Price and the Toronto Blue Jays are another in the running for the Ray’s ace. Seattle is looking to pair someone up with starting ace Felix Hernandez in the starting rotation to make a postseason push, while the Blue Jays sit tied for second in the AL East.

  1. Please do not trade Pederson, Urias or Seager. These kids are the future stars of the MLB.
