Giants Have Met With Both Giancarlo Stanton And Shohei Ohtani

It seems like the terrifying thought of the Giants acquiring both Giancarlo Stanton and Shohei Ohtani is possible, at least the Giants think so. It was reported last week that the Giants met with Stanton, and on Monday it was reported that they are the first known team to have met with Ohtani.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area first reported on the Giants meeting with Ohtani:

Multiple sources told NBC Sports Bay Area that the Giants sent a large contingent to meet with Ohtani on Monday afternoon in Los Angeles. They are the first known team to sit down face to face with the Japanese superstar, who was posted last week and intends to be a two-way player next season. The Giants sent the majority of their front office, including Larry Baer, Brian Sabean, Bobby Evans and Jeremy Shelley. Bruce Bochy was also sent to the meeting, and a source said the Giants called Buster Posey in to help with the recruiting.

Earlier on Monday, it was announced that Ohtani had narrowed his list of teams to seven, with the Giants being one of them. While Ohtani is likely to meet with all seven teams, being first could provide the Giants with somewhat of an advantage. What the Giants plan for Ohtani would be is unclear, but they would have the two best hitting pitchers in baseball when he is paired with Madison Bumgarner.

The Giants also feel that their meeting with Giancarlo Stanton went well, which was also reported by Alex Pavlovic.

Brian Sabean and Bobby Evans already had one big meeting, sitting down with Stanton and his representatives last week in Los Angeles. Per sources familiar with the discussion, the Giants came away from that meeting feeling that it had gone very well. There is increased optimisim in the organization that this will actually happen, assuming Stanton gives his blessing.

It’s still unclear if the Giants will land either of the two highly sought-after targets, but it seems they’re going all in on both of them and will be there until the bitter end. Do you think they have a chance to land both of them? Let us know in the comments!

  1. If Giants get Stanton, that pitcher for cheap and sign Bautista or and the Tigers bomber from AZ. They have a team. They have a strong economic fan base.
