Justin Turner and Dave Roberts on Dodgers Clubhouse And Slump

The Dodgers just continue to make history; however, this time it’s for all of the wrong reasons.

Sunday’s loss against the Rockies went down in the history books in a few different ways. Eric Stephen of True Blue LA noted them all below and boy are they gut-wrenching.

The Dodgers were absolutely destroyed today, with a final score of 8-1. The single run came from Alex Verdugo’s first major league home run, which was the only positive to come out of today’s game.

After the game, Dave Roberts spoke with the media and, again, just seems confused and frustrated. This is a new look for Doc, who is usually very positive and level-headed.

Here are some of the best quotes from Roberts this afternoon:

We have a frustrated clubhouse. A very frustrated, upset clubhouse. There’s really no explanation. We have to find a way to win a game.

I know the coaching staff, I know the players are preparing each day. I know that. I believe that. And outside of that, the players got to go out there and play.

Our guys do a good job of focusing on that next day. And right now they’re upset. There’s frustration, anger.

Justin Turner also gave fans a look inside of the clubhouse and he kept it as real as it gets. He spoke about the team’s most recent slump and referred to himself and his teammates as the “worst team in baseball.” Unfortunately, he is not wrong with that statement, considering the Dodgers are the only team this season to lose 10 games in a row.

There doesn’t seem to be an exact problem that is causing the Dodgers to play like this. The blame can be equally shared between poor pitching, silent offense, and questionable calls from Dave Roberts. The only thing that is certain is that we have seen the Dodgers be the best team in baseball.

With a starting four of Clayton Kershaw, Yu Darvish, Alex Wood, and Rich Hill, and relievers like Kenley Jansen and Brandon Morrow, it is only a matter of time before the pitching comes around. With hitters like Chris Taylor, Corey Seager, Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger, and Yasiel Puig, it is only a matter of time before the bats come around.

This is what makes it so frustrating. The names and talent is undoubtedly there, it’s just a matter of when they will be able to connect the dots again and start winning. Hopefully that “when” comes in San Francisco against the Giants.

  1. Acquiring Granderson was a slap in the face of the team. He continues to take playing time from others and is doing nothing. Put him on the bench immediately. Start the team that was winning and get back on the rails. Grandy is a great guy and teammate but he did not earn his current place and the players have shown the views in subtle ways. This move is comparable to getting rid of AJ last year…mistake for team chemistry. That was one of the biggest assets this team had. It is gone now.

    1. I agree with you. This team did some historical things before they got Granderson. Nice guy, but he’s not a Dodger, he’s just wearing the uniform. Kind of like Ruddick last season. Stop resting players until the division is clinched. BTW…Granderson should have laid down a bunt with a man on first instead of striking out. Let’s get it done in SF and continue.

  2. I am so tired of the media failing to do its job every postgame interview with Dave Roberts. Someone please ask him straightforward questions about specific managerial decisions! Then, ask follow-up questions to his nonsensical responses. The fans deserve more!

  3. I was at the game on Friday night…You my Friend are absolutely right about Brandy…can’t hit a lick…which puts pressure on rest of line up to produce and it showed bcuz every single hitter that night was first pitch swinging..popping up..striking out..The patience it takes as a team to hit and get runners in to score just isn’t there at moment….The pitchers they have been facing are no way that good…No way..Turn it around Blue….Good at bats….G….

  5. I don’t know, we may need a Kirk Gibson type to stand and say “enough of this BS! Let’s saddle up and finish the job! I, for one, am tired of hearing David Vasay saying “we’re still the best team in baseball” and “we still have the best record in the league” Just like Justin Turner said “right now, we’re the worst” Let’s shake this and prove that we ARE the best team again

  6. Not blaming Grandy, he was picked up not to be an everyday player but a left handed pinch hitter with pop, I’ll take him over Pederson who is still trying to find his swing, today was only the 2nd day having CT3, Seager, Turner, and Bellinger in the same line up in two weeks, Grandy doesn’t play when they’re in the line up together. This streak is on the Starting pitching, i don’t care who you are when you’re constantly giving up a few runs in the 1st couple of innings it takes a toll trying to fight back every single game, we have to get the SP to lock in again and offense score some runs 1st for a change.

  7. Granderson has no place in this lineup. Put Puig back to batting 7th or 8th. He doesn’t do well under pressure. Why mess with a formula that was winning? It’s not that confusing. Please just give us the lineup that won 44 out of 50. And Doc? Don’t diss the nicest fans in baseball. They can boo anyone they want, especially Baez. He’s just not consistent. He has single-handedly lost at least 3 games this season. His ERA in recent games is over 16. Sorry, we get to boo. We are really booing YOU for putting him in.

    1. They don’t need Granderson as a left hand pinch hitter when they have Either back. I would leave Granderson on the bench and don’t take him to the post season.

  8. I believe Denise hit the nail on the head about Granderson and bunting. I have seen several opportunities for the Dodgers to manufacture a run or two (small ball), but it seems they all have forgotten how to bunt and are playing for the big inning! let’s get back to basics, return the original lineup, and stop resting that you are already in the playoffs, when in fact your not. Keep playing like this and you will be watching the playoffs from your couch!

  9. Sundays loss in part goes to Roberts. Putting a 21 year old rookie in and then when he got into trouble and no one warming up in the bull pen especially when he loaded the baseess was ridiculous. The most important should be to clinch the division before trying to give rookies a chance to prove themselves.
For me Roberts winning manger of the just went out the window.

    1. Roberts has become Don Mattingly. Different line-up every day, the relief “pitchers” pitching every day. If they somehow blow this lead, and if the season lasts long enough, it appears they might, then heads need to roll.

  10. Put the best lineup in, every day, until you clinch the best record in the NO. It is not enough to make it to post season. Win it all!
