Minor Leagues: ESPN’s Keith Law Discusses Dodgers’ Corey Seager

Making noise at the minor league level, the Dodgers promoted Corey Seager from Low Class A to high Class A Rancho Cucamonga.

With Low A, Seager hit .309 with 12 home runs and 57 RBIs in 74 games, which earned a promotion to Rancho. Thus far, Seager has four hits in seven games and while the average isn’t there, he did hit long first home run.

As Seager continues to tear it up, ESPN.com prospect guru Keith Law talked about his potential:

His athleticism is evident when he’s out at shortstop, but his actions aren’t good enough for him to stay there, and his size is a major factor working against him — at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds he’d be the largest shortstop in major league history if he played even one full season at the position, and his body isn’t going to become faster or looser in time. I think he goes to third base and becomes an impact bat there with 25-plus-homer potential.

With Hanley Ramirez a free agent at season’s end, but him stating his desire to remain a Dodger, it’d behoove the organization to make Seager a third baseman.

General manager Ned Colletti and president Stan Kasten have been adamant about replenishing the farm system and looking at the rise of Seager is a great indication that things are on the right track.
