MLB News: Texas Rangers Release Former Dodger Manny Ramirez

Former Red Sox and Dodgers star Manny Ramirez saw his comeback attempt fall short as he was released by the Texas Rangers organization after spending time at their Triple-A affiliate.

Ramirez was in the Taiwanese league earlier this year, but his bat speed was reportedly significantly slower than previous seasons.

Rangers GM Jon Daniels confirmed Manny’s release via Todd Willis of ESPN Dallas.com:

Based on our evaluation, there was not a spot on the club for Manny at this time, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said.

With Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz suspended for the rest of the season, there was a natural inclination that Manny could find a spot at the big league level.

However, the Rangers traded for Alex Rios and have enough depth that his services weren’t needed. At age 41, this seems to be the end of the road for Manny.

For Dodger fans, the time that Manny spent in LA was incredible as he hit .322 with 44 home runs and 156 RBIs in 223 games with the Dodgers. While he was suspended during his stint in Hollywood, Manny provided fans with entertainment and even got the left field section named “Mannywood”.

Even though Manny won’t be in the Hall of Fame with his past PED use, he had a long career and it was a great experience having him in Dodger blue.

  1. Matt Kemp should rest this whole season, I believe Dodgers team would do great with out him, sorry to say but Dodgers don’t need Matt Kemp. Dodgers have raised from the death when Yasiel Puig was sign into the team and having Andre Eithier as a leader as rest of the team I am confident Dodgers will make it to the playoff and this time win the World Series
