MLB Rumors: NL West Teams Show Interest In Dan Haren

UPDATE (Jan. 9, 8:30 a.m. PT): According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Colorado Rockies have some interest in Dan Haren:

Meanwhile, Morosi also reports the San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins aren’t currently discussing a trade for Haren:

[divide] When the Los Angeles Dodgers were in need of pitching last offseason, they turned to Southern California native Dan Haren, who they signed to a two-year deal. Haren’s first season with the Dodgers had its share of peaks and valleys, and ended with the veteran right-hander exercising his vesting option for 2015.

Roughly two weeks after Haren informed the Dodgers of his decision, a report surfaced he was being shopped. Given that the Dodgers were being led by new faces in president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and general manager Farhan Zaidi, what to make of the rumor was largely unknown.

Haren let it be known his desire at this stage in his career was to remain on the West Coast and more specifically, in Los Angeles. The Dodgers nonetheless included him in the trade with the Miami Marlins and sent $10 million in cash incentives to cover his 2015 salary.

Whether or not Haren will report to the Marlins is currently unclear, but it’s plausible he makes a return to the NL West. According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the San Francisco Giants contacted the Marlins on Haren:

While the Giants made strides in addressing their pitching need by re-signing Jake Peavy, new of Tim Hudson’s ankle surgery could cause them to explore additional options. Marlins officials have publicly shared their hope that Haren joins them, though it doesn’t appear likely.

Should Haren manage to make his way to San Francisco, he would still get to experience Spring Training in Arizona and be a short flight from home. Whether or not he spends 2015 with the Marlins, they will receive the full $10 million from the Dodgers.
