MLB Rumors: St. Louis Cardinals Interested In Justin Turner?

The St. Louis Cardinals are interested in free-agent third baseman Justin Tuner, sources told MLB.com. There have been recent interest with the San Francisco Giants and of course, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jon Morosi reports that if the Cardinals want to pursue Turner then they would have to take a two-step process.

  • The Cardinals would have to move third baseman Jhonny Peralta to a different position
  • Or trade Peralta to another team
The Dodgers Debt: Mountain or Mole Hill?

Peralta will be earning $10 million for the 2017 season for his final year of his contract. The 34-year-old veteran had a below average season in 2016 and had a slash of .260/.307/.715 with 8 home runs and 29 RBIs.

Turner hit 27 homers with 90 RBIs with a .832 OPS. Just from the numbers themselves, Turner would be a better choice than Peralta.

With Turner’s glove, the Cardinals would have a star-studded third baseman. In the 2016 season, Justin Turner had a .972 fielding percentage with only nine errors.

Turner is one free-agent that is on the hot market in the off-season, along with Kenley Jansen and Aroldis Chapman.

Will the Dodgers be able to keep Justin Turner?

  1. Several teams have an interest in Turner and the Dodgers are not one of them.  Sad!

  2. Forget it; Turner stays; cannot afford to lose him. He is the team leader and his bat and defensive play speaks
    volumes for him.

  3. liberalarefinished Exactly right.. Same goes for Kenley.. ! If that tightwad Friedman lets either one of them go, then they will have lost a 60 year Dodger fan..!

  4. BrooksBerrett Friedman screwed up the pitching at the trade deadline last year.. Tightwad.. They raise ticket prices.. Get  LOTS of $$ more from TV.. attendance is 3.5 million EVERY year. So, you can’t use payroll as an excuse.. If they want to contend.. Keep them both..

  5. For what it’s worth……..Mark Saxson who used to cover the Cards and the Dodgers (think he works for ESPN right now) says this rumor about Cardinal interest in Turner is not true. As they always do, he cites “sources” within the Cardinal organization.
