Back-to-back doubles from Turner and Ethier cut the Dodgers’ deficit in half with no outs in the bottom of the fourth. However, they ran into an out when Crawford tapped back to the box and Syndergaard alertly threw to third base to nail Ethier.

Crawford eventually stole second base with two outs, which prompted the Mets to intentionally walk Hernandez. With the tying run in scoring position, Greinke put a charge into one, but it was caught easily in right-center field to end the inning.

Greinke bookended a scoreless fifth inning with strikeouts, to give him seven in the game to that point. The Dodgers didn’t muster any offense in the bottom half of the inning as Syndergaard retired the side in order on 10 pitches.

Included in that was Gonzalez striking out a third time on the night, and sixth time in seven NLDS at-bats. A Granderson infield single in the sixth inning was wiped out by Wright grounding into a 6-3 double play.

Ethier drew his second walk of the game in the bottom of the sixth, however nothing came of it as Crawford followed by grounding into an inning-ending double play. In what could be his final start with the Dodgers, Greinke tossed a quick seventh inning to keep the Mets’ lead to just 2-1.

Hernandez drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh and stole second base with pinch-hitter Chase Utley at the plate. Utley lined a base hit just over Murphy’s head to put runners on the corners. Bartolo Colon came on in relief and got Kendrick to ground up the middle, which Murphy managed to get to and toss to Tejada at second base.

Utley’s late slide upended the Mets shortstop, preventing a double play from being turned, and allowing the Dodgers to tie the game. Tejada wound up getting cart off the field, and Utley was ruled safe upon a challenge from Dodgers manager Don Mattingly.

Seager flied out, but Gonzalez delivered with a two-run double. Turner followed with an RBI double, and the Dodgers took a 5-2 lead to the eighth inning. Chris Hatcher struck out the first two batters faced, and got Wilmer Flores to hit back to the box.
