After the Minor League season came to an end, the Los Angeles Dodgers moved on from their relationship with their Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque as they purchased the Oklahoma City Redhawks to take the place of their new Triple-A team.

Both Albuquerque and Oklahoma City are members of the Pacific Coast League, so the change won’t be too drastic in terms of competition. However, there will be a change in the environment, which may aid talent evaluations. While in Albuquerque, it was difficult to scout pitchers as hitters’ numbers were often inflated due to the high altitude.

The 2014 season in Albuquerque was a rough one for the Isotopes as they made headlines on two separate occasions for fighting. First, there was the altercation between Miguel Olivo and Alex Guerrero, then Erisbel Arruebarrena ignited a brawl that involved the Reno Aces. Despite the low points, Joc Pederson had an excellent year, winning league MVP and becoming the first player in 80 years to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in a single PCL season.

With the team owning their affiliate, a name change was announced Wednesday as the Redhawks became the Oklahoma City Dodgers. Along with the name change came new logos and uniforms that paid homage to Oklahoma City’s baseball history as well as the Dodger heritage in both Brooklyn and Los Angeles.
