Hanley RamirezEver since he became a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, shortstop Hanley Ramirez has talked about his love for the city of LA. Acquired after a down start to his 2012 season, Ramirez reverted back to his All-Star ways in 2013.

In just 86 games last season, the 29-year-old shortstop hit .345 with 20 home runs and 57 RBI while dealing with thumb, hamstring, shoulder and rib injuries. It was during the NLCS that Ramirez expressed his love for the city, claiming he owed it to the fans to play through a fractured eighth rib against the St. Louis Cardinals.

With his contract expiring after the 2014 season, Ramirez is a prime candidate for an extension this winter, something he hinted at on his Instagram account. On December 6, he posted a picture on an airplane with the caption, “To Los Angeles…..Good News!!!” to only have his agent say he was actually headed to the Dominican Republic.

Tomorrow is Ramirez’s 30th birthday and celebrating with family and friends tonight, he had a Los Angeles/Dodgers themed cake. Here’s the picture he posted on Instagram:
