RECAP: Alex Wood Is Excellent, and Trayce Walks Off

For as rough as the 2016 season has been for Alex Wood so far, tonight he threw a gem. Facing Jake DeGrom, Wood went 6.1 innings and allowed only one earned run. The Dodgers gave Wood an early lead by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Corey Seager, Chase Utley, and Adrian González drove in runs, while Yasiel Puig made some noise of his own in right field.

Wood got into a little trouble in the second, after a Chase Utley error cost the Dodgers a double play, and the Mets went on to tie the game 2-2. But from the second inning on, Wood was nearly flawless, recording a season high 9 strikeouts and giving up only 4 hits on the night.

The 2-2 score would remain intact for the remainder of the game, until the bottom of the 9th.  With 2 outs and 2 strikes, Trayce Thompson pinch hit for Kenley Jansen and hit a walk off home run.

On a night where the Dodgers weren’t given a chance, they walk off with their most exciting win of the season behind a strong outing from Alex Wood, and the bullpen.

The Dodgers will have Kenta Maeda go against Noah Syndergaard tomorrow night at 7:10pm.

  1. Wood was unlucky in the 2nd. Chase normally would not throw that ball away. His best performance so far…..my solution? Pitch the guy at home only…he is terrible on the road…..also, until Adrian really starts hitting the ball at Dodger Stadium…he is hitting under .100 there, this team will struggle scoring runs….
