Recap: Chase Utley Homers, Corey Seager Notches 21st Career HR in 9-4 Win vs. Phillies

Coming from a 2-1 series win against the Boston Red Sox, the Los Angeles Dodgers went into their series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Chase Utley faced his former team for the first time and alongside Corey Seager put on a show.

Julio Urias was on the mound for the Dodgers and the stadium was packed for Lakers Night as well. Lakers Metta World Peace was on the field along side the Laker Girls as he threw out the first pitch.

Going into the bottom of the first inning, the Dodgers started the game on fire! Corey Seager homered on a fly ball to center field, giving the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. This was Seager’s 20th home run of the season, which tied Justin Turner as the home run leader for the club.

Adrian Gonzalez followed with a single to right field, while Josh Reddick moved 2nd base and Turner ran in for the score making 2-0. Later Joc Pederson doubled on a sharp line drive to center field, allowing Reddick and Gonzalez to score. The Dodgers continued their streak with a 4-0 lead.

Rob Segedin went out on a sacrifice fly to to right field, allowing Yasmani Grandal to run in for another Dodger score, giving them a score of 5-0. In the bottom of the 2nd, Utley stepped up to the plate and hit his eighth home run on the season to right field, and the Dodgers gained a 6-0 lead.

The Phillies gained three scores in the top of the third, but Yasmani Grandal stepped up in the bottom of the third with a homer to right field making the score 7-3. Grandal let the bat go like he knew the ball was gone. He also notched his 10th double of the season in the win.

In the 7th inning, Seager hit his 21st career home run, and second home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. He ends the night as the Dodgers new home run leader, went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, and 2 solo-HRs.

Urias also had a strong night ending with the following stat line: 5IP, 5 H, 3R (1ER) and 2Ks.

The Dodgers went on to win 9-4 and will host the Phillies for two more games at Dodger Stadium. The San Francisco Giants defeated the Miami Marlins 8-7 in 14 innings and the Dodgers remain 1 game back behind them in the NL West with a record of 63-49.
