Recap: Dodgers Bats Come Alive Prevent Sweep with 5-4 Win vs. Pirates | VIDEO

The Los Angeles Dodgers looked to prevent the series sweep vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates in an early game on Monday. After an impressive winning streak at home the Dodgers have dropped three straight, even losing on Kershaw Day 4-3.

The Dodgers are in the middle of their 7-game road trip and closing out the series vs. the Pirates Scott Kazmir took the mound.

Unfortunately Kazmir struggled in the 1st inning as the Pirates went up 4-0 early. He threw 40 pitches in the first inning.

Jumping to the 3rd inning, Chris Taylor in his first at-bat hit a triple. Taylor had the Dodgers first hit of the game.

Taylor goes on to score after a sacrifice-fly from Justin Turner to cut the deficit 4-1.

Taylor made his Dodgers debut on Monday playing shortstop and batting eighth as Corey Seager got the day off.

However, it wasn’t until the top of the 5th inning that the Dodgers offense got going. Kazmir also settled down after struggling early in the game.

Howie Kendrick then singled to bring in Trayce Thompson, followed by A.J. Ellis, which gave the Dodgers the lead.

Kazmir’s day was over after 5 innings, and Louis Coleman came in to pitch.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, Kenley Jansen came in for a 4-out save and the Dodgers went on to win 5-4. In the victory the Dodgers prevent a series sweep by the Pirates since 1944.

  1. This season is officially over for the Dodgers.  They are about as close to last place in their weak division as they are to first place.  The Giants have run away, so far in fact, that barring significant injuries or a catastrophic earthquake in SF, you can bet your last dollar that they take the division.
