The Marlins went down in order with Frias picking up two strikeouts in the top of the fifth. The Dodgers took their first lead of the game in the bottom half of the inning, as Ethier led off with a walk and Kiké Hernandez’s lined a two-run homer into the left field pavilion.

After Frias’ was thrown out on an attempt to reach via bunt, Pederson hit a solo shot to give the Dodgers a 4-2 lead. Frias continued to sail along in the top of the sixth as he sat the Marlins down in order and retired seven in a row up to that point.

Guerrero lined a one-out single past a diving Gordon in the bottom of the sixth and it inadvertently knocked Cosart out of the game. The right-hander began to make a break toward first base once Guerrero made contact and appeared to suffer an injury.

Sam Dyson came on in relief and got help behind him from Adeiny Hechavarria, who made a sliding stop on a chopper up the middle to start an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play. Hechavarria then led off the seventh inning with a base hit up the middle and that would be all for Frias.

Adam Liberatore and Scott Van Slyke entered the game, replacing Frias and Guerrero, respectively. Pinch-hitter Ichiro Suzuki reached on a bunt that left two on with no outs and Gordon followed with a base hit to load the bases.

Chris Hatcher took over for Liberatore and more trouble ensued for the Dodgers. Prado drove in run with an RBI single that cut the Dodgers’ lead to 4-3 and still left the bases loaded. Stanton promptly followed with a two-run base hit and the Marlins took a 5-4 lead.

Marcell Ozuna appeared to ground into a 5-4-3 double play, but the Marlins successfully challenged the call at first base and the Marlins were left with runners on the corners and one out. Yelich hit back to Hatcher, who threw home after thinking about going to second base, and Prado was caught in a rundown for the second out.

Pedro Baez took over for Hatcher after he walked Morse to load the bases and got the Dodgers out of the jam by striking out Realmuto to keep the Dodgers within a run of the Marlins. Bryan Morris came out of the Miami bullpen in the bottom of the seventh and retired the Dodgers in order.

Baez struck out the first two batters he faced in the eighth before giving up a double to Gordon. Compounding matters, Grandal signaled to the Dodgers dugout as he made his way to the mound and Baez was removed from the game after a conversation with trainer Stan Conte.

Santos came on in relief and ended the inning on a Prado line out. Mike Dunn allowed a two-out double to Kendrick, but the Dodgers wouldn’t mount any rally as Gonzalez grounded out to end the inning.

Santos allowed a one-out single in the ninth but nothing else and got out of the inning on a 6-3 double play. A.J. Ramos came on in the bottom of the ninth and earned his first career save in the Marlins’ 5-4 win. The loss prevented the Dodgers from completing a three-game sweep and snapped their modest five-game winning streak.
