The Los Angeles Dodgers concluded their six-game homestand Sunday with an afternoon affair against the Arizona Diamondbacks, who occupy the basement in the National League West standings.

Brett Anderson got off to a quick start, retiring the side in order in the first inning. Diamondbacks starter Chase Anderson hit Howie Kendrick with a pitch in the bottom of the first with two outs, but it didn’t amount to anything as Adrian Gonzalez grounded out to end the inning.

After hitting a leadoff single in the second, Mark Trumbo was erased from the basepaths on a Yasmany Tomas double play. Chris Owings then flied out to right field and Brett had another scoreless inning under his belt.

Chase continued to match his counterpart in the bottom half of the inning despite issuing a one-out walk to Andre Ethier. The Dodgers again would do nothing after having a baserunner reach safely, this time being done in by a Juan Uribe double play.

Brett retired both Tuffy Gosewich and Nick Ahmed on groundouts in the third and ended the inning by striking out Chase. The Diamondbacks right-hander returned the favor for the second out in the bottom of the third and struck out Joc Pederson swinging for the second time on the afternoon to keep the game scoreless through three innings.

After Inciarte reached on an infield single that Kendrick was unable to make a barehanded play on, A.J. Pollock grounded into the Diamondbacks’ second double play of the game. Paul Goldschmidt reached on an infield single that Uribe managed to get his glove on, but his momentum carried him into foul territory and he was unable to get enough on the throw to first base.

Uribe then made the more routine play on a Trumbo grounder to end the inning. Adrian Gonzalez broke up Chase’s no-hitter with a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth. Gonzalez then moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, but Alex Guerrero was called out on strikes for the third out.

Gosewich reached on a two-out single in the fifth, however the inning came to a close a few pitches later as A.J. Ellis caught him stealing on Gosewich’s first career stolen base attempt. Uribe extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the bottom of the fifth, but Chase otherwise quieted the Dodgers and kept the game locked in a scoreless tie.

  1. Wow. What an ending. Grandal redeemed himself after the passed ball. Looks like his bat is heating up.

  2. Very cool. Kendrick’s stupid out at third earlier would a made this a shorter game though.
