Despite pitching well Tuesday night, Clayton Kershaw came away with loss after the offense failed to provide enough run support. The Los Angeles Dodgers turned to Zack Greinke in the rubber match against the San Francisco Giants, with Greinke looking to continue his dominance over the Giants.

Off the bat it was evident Wednesday night wouldn’t necessarily be like other games have gone for Greinke. Nori Aoki reached on an infield single and went first to third on Buster Posey’s one-out single. Brandon Belt got a base hit just past Howie Kendrick to bring Aoki home and give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Despite the early run, Greinke struck out the side to limit the damage.

Joc Pederson batted leadoff for the first time in his Major-League career and hit the second pitch he saw from Ryan Vogelsong over the right field wall to tie the game.

The tie only lasted for two more batters as Adrian Gonzalez delivered a two-out solo home run of his own to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead. After Scott Van Slyke drew a walk, the home run party continued on Andre Either’s two-run home run that extended the Dodgers’ lead to 4-1 after the first inning.

With runners on first and second and two outs in the second inning, Joe Panik hit a fly ball into the right-center field gap that Ethier tracked down and made a diving catch to end the inning. Vogelsong sat the Dodgers down in order in the bottom of the second.

After getting two quick outs and his fourth strikeout of the night, Greinke gave up a double to Belt. Pederson nearly came up with a diving catch on the play but was half a step short. It wouldn’t matter as Justin Maxwell flied out and the Dodgers continued to lead, 4-1.
