Recap: Hyun-Jin Ryu Struggles in Dodgers 6-0 Loss vs. Padres | VIDEO

The Los Angeles Dodgers looked to prevent losing three games in a row as they hosted the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers reinstated pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, while also recalling pitcher Carlos Frias.

This was Ryu’s first game back with the Dodgers since September 21, 2014. The Dodgers will face the Padres for three more games at home before the All-Star break.

Top of the 1st – Bottom of the 3rd Inning

Melvin Upton Jr. hits a homer in the first inning allowing the Padres to score and lead 1-0. Hyun-Jin Ryu makes his first strike out of the game and strikes out Will Myers. Yasiel Puig ends the top of the first inning as he caught a fly ball in the foul territory.

Top of the 4th- Bottom of the 6th inning

Padres’ Deric Norris singles a ground ball to Corey Seager and Norris makes it to second as Seager threw an error. Ryu ends the top of the fourth after striking out Drew Pomeranz, and making it his fourth strike out of the game.

In the top of the 5th inning Matt Kemp doubles to center field and scores after Yangervis Solarte also doubles. Padres extend their lead 4-0. Padres score again in the 5th after Alex Dickerson hits a line drive to  right fielder Yasiel Puig. Padres lead 6-0. There was a change of pitchers for the Dodgers and Casey Fien replaces Hyun-Jin Ryu who is done for the night.

Top of the 7th- Bottom of the 9th

Carlos Frias made his Dodgers debut at the top of the 7th inning. Fries was just called up from OKC.

Jumping to the top of the 8th, Frias was  looking at bases loaded with 1 out left to make.  Frias ended the top of the 8th as he struck out Melvin Upton Jr. and Padres continued to lead 6-0. In the bottom of the 8th inning the Dodgers’ offensive struggles continued. Seeger failed to get a hit snapping his 19 game hitting streak.

Bottom of the 9th, Adrian Gonzalez leads and walks. Unfortunately, neither Puig or Thompson could not get anything going and the Dodgers fall 6-0.
