Recap: Jose De Leon’s Major League Debut and Yasiel Puig’s Return!

De Leon’s first MLB inning ended with no runs, one hit, one hit-by-pitch, two strikeouts, and 20 pitches; not too shabby for a rookie! He is the first Dodger ever to strike out at least nine and walk none in his MLB debut.

The Puerto Rican player showed a lot of excitement going into this game, especially because he got to play while Vin Scully was still announcing. De Leon said he was hoping to be brought up before the end of the year “because I wanted Vin Scully to call my game.”

Rich Crimi/Tulsa DrillersHe was drafted by the Dodgers in the 24th round of the 2013 MLB draft. He made his professional debut with the Arizona League Dodgers. In 2016, De Leon spent the season in AAA with the Oklahoma City Dodgers, where he was 7–1 with a 3.02 ERA in 16 starts. He struck out 111 batters against only 20 walks.
