Rich Hill Placed On 10-Day DL, Adam Liberatore Recalled

The Dodgers will be without Rich Hill for at least the next 10 days, as the left hander was placed on the DL (retroactive to 4/15) with inflammation in his finger. It appears to be a cracked nail frimbinitial reports, not one of his famous blister issues. To replace Hill on the active roster, Adam Liberatore was recalled from Triple-A. At the moment it’s unclear who will take his place in the Dodgers’ rotation.

The Dodgers have recalled Adam Liberatore from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Rich Hill (left third digit inflammation) on the 10-day DL (retroactive to April 15).

Rich Hill was off to an up-and-down start in 2018. His first start saw him throw 6 shutout innings, but in his next two he allowed 10 runs across 9 innings. Hill’s lack of command in his last start could partially be attributed to this injury. If this was the case, a stint on the DL could be exactly what Hill needs to get himself back on track. Fortunately this doesn’t appear to be related to his blister issues.

With relief pitcher Adam Liberatore coming up as the corresponding move it creates a hole in the rotation. Hill was expected to start Friday against Washington. The Dodgers could recall a starter between now and then or have a bullpen game. The most popular option would be Walker Buehler, but having pitched Monday this seems unlikely. The Dodgers could also move Clayton Kershaw up a day.

We’ll have to wait and see how the Dodgers replace Hill while he’s on the shelf. For now, the Dodgers will have an extra arm in the bullpen with Adam Liberatore. Liberatore has had success with the Dodgers before, and was off to a great start in the minors. He has yet to allow a run over 6.1 innings, with 9 strikeouts in 2018. The Dodgers bullpen as a whole has been solid thus far, and Liberatore will look to provide more of the same.
