Spring Training Recap: Dodgers Offense Explodes In Win Over Brewers

Alex Guerrero

PAGES: 1 | 2

On a day when the team split up, half of the Los Angeles Dodgers travelled to Maryvale to take on the Milwaukee Brewers. Zach Lee got the start for the Dodgers against Matt Garza.

Both pitchers tossed a scoreless first inning.

The Dodgers got to Garza in the second inning, as center fielder Joc Pederson singled in Scott Van Slyke to continue his torrid start to Spring Training. First baseman Kyle Jensen continued to attack the Brewers’ right-hander by bringing in Pederson on an infield single to bring the score to 2-0. A.J. Ellis broke the game open by hitting a three-run home run in the inning, making it 5-0.

Lee tossed another hitless inning to finish his day. In the top of the third, Pederson stayed hot with a double. Alex Guerrero then got in on the action, launching a home run to left field to put the Dodgers up 7-0.

The 18-year-old prospect, Julio Urias, was stellar in the third inning, striking out two and walking one. Three walks and a Van Slyke single made it 8-0 in the top half of the fourth.

Urias came back out for the fourth and got a pop out. He then walked Aramis Ramirez, but picked off pinch-runner Elian Herrera. The left-hander then walked Khris Davis and reached his pitch limit at just over 40 pitches. Yimi Garcia came into the game and got the third out.

  1. Scott Schebler looks very good at the plate. Glad Pederson is hitting he can use the confidence against Major League pitching even if it is Spring. He has not hit Spring Ball well before. I find it amusing that AJ Ellis is hitting better this Spring than Grandal and with more power. I still think we gave Kemp away for no reason. Grandal did not look good behind the plate the first game. He let a low inside pitch roll behind him. It wasn’t in the dirt simply low but he did not get down fast enough and tried to grab it with his glove. Bad mechanics. Guererro looks very good at the plate. I think he sticks on the club and will be used to give Uribe some rest. So far so good we have some solid youngsters and some of the relief pitching we have seen looks solid. Zack Lee and Reed throwing well now if McCarthy and Anderson can stay healthy we will have a great chance at the post season.Thankfully Baseball is Back Go Blue….

    1. Thanks for the update. Much appreciated. I was watching the Brewers game late last night and fell asleep. Happy to hear our prospects are doing well. Looks like Andre E. isn’t doing to well, wonder what the Dodgers will do? I don’t have any attachment to him so I won’t be bothered if they move him.

      1. You are welcome. I cannot be too sad for Andre E. He is owed 56 Million Dollars. Somehow he and his family will be able to survive I am sure. At the incredible salaries of the entertainers, actors and sports figures I do not have any sympathy as the regular workers wages have stagnated and we are all struggling to make ends meet. So in my opinion Andre needs to suck it up and be the best Teammate he can be, wherever he ends up!
