Sergio Santos took over for the Dodgers in the top of the fourth. After Solarte reached base on an error by Santos, Derek Norris hit a two-run homer to bring the Padres within one run. The Dodger quickly answered though, as Pederson led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to right.

One batter later, Turner launched a solo shot of his own and the Dodgers once again led by three runs, 7-4 after four. Dustin McGowan entered in the top of the fifth and quickly gave up a lead off homer to Lane.

Myers beat out an infield single hit to third but was later erased by Yasmani Grandal on a stolen base attempt. McGowan then got a strike out and groundout to end the inning. Once again the Dodgers answered right back, behind an Ethier two-out double and Juan Uribe RBI single that extended the Dodgers’ lead to 8-5.

It was J.P. Howell’s turn in the top of the sixth, and he became the first Dodger reliever to pitch a scoreless inning on the day. Although, it didn’t come easy as he gave up a single and issued a walk but got pinch-hitter Tommy Medica to fly out to end the threat.

Scott Van Slyke joined the home run party in the bottom of the sixth as he hit a one-out, solo shot to left and the Dodgers led 9-5 after six. David Aardsma took over for the Dodgers in the seventh, issued a two-out walk but otherwise kept the Padres off the bases in a scoreless inning of work.

Alex Guerrero and Daniel Mayora both singled with one out in the seventh. Padres reliever Nick Vincent got some help from Brett Wallace, who made a backhanded diving stop at third base to rob Chris Heisey of a likely double and at least one RBI.

Vincent walked Darwin Barney to load the bases with two outs, but got out of the jam as Kiké Hernandez popped up on the first pitch to end the inning. Paco Rodriguez continued his strong showing this spring by striking out two of the three batters he faced in the eighth.

Yimi Garcia issued a two-out walk but threw a scoreless ninth inning to close out the Dodgers’ 9-5 win over the Padres.

  1. Let’s hope that Chapman University’s journalism program will eventually get around to teaching its juniors the inverted pyramid so that we don’t have to read information in chronological order.

    1. So Ive had this question for quite awhile. Why do journalists NOT give information in chronological order most of the time? I personally hate reading what happened last first. I would much prefer it in the order that it happened, but I know most writing is not this way. Is someone willing to explain this to the ignorant one. PS, it’s not like I’m retarded or anything either. I’ve got a college degree, but I’m more of a math guy. Thanks in advance.
