Dodgers Promotions: Matt Kemp Bobblehead in September

The Dodgers announced that they would use their last bobblehead game to honor Matt Kemp. The first 40,000 fans on September 18 will receive a bobblehead of the 13-year Major League veteran as Los Angeles faces the Colorado Rockies.

This bobblehead will be the fourth time the Dodgers give Kemp a bobblehead. The previous bobbleheads came in 2009, 2010 and 2013 featuring him pointing his fingers to the sky, robbing a home run and during his swing follow through. The team has not yet released an image of this upcoming bobblehead.

The timing of this announcement came a day after Kemp earned the Player of the Week honors this past week. He batted .429 with three home runs this past week as the team faced Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies. Kemp’s .348 batting average currently leads the National League.

Analysis

Although the bobblehead is just a small figurine, it means more than that for Kemp. He has gone through a journey from being the most popular player in the league to a player let go by Los Angeles. Even when the team brought him back, no one expected him to actually play a game in a Dodger uniform. Now, Kemp is the most productive and valuable player for the Dodgers and his bobblehead is well-deserved.
