ESPN Adds Dodgers-Pirates Game To Sunday Night Baseball Telecast
ESPN added the Aug. 9 game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park will be on the network’s Sunday Night Baseball 5 p.m. PT telecast. The game was previously scheduled for a 10:35 a.m. PT start, and this marks the third time this season the Dodgers will be part of the national telecast.
Dan Shulman will call the game, along with commentators John Kruk and Mark Mulder. Also, insider Buster Olney is the sideline reporter for the crew. Now that the game is nationally televised, the broadcast will also be available to watch online and on mobile devices via Watch ESPN.
Through almost three-fifths of the baseball season, both teams find themselves in postseason contention. The Dodgers have a one-game lead in the National League West heading into play on Monday. Meanwhile the Pirates currently trail the St. Louis Cardinals by six games for first place in the NL Central.
The two organizations are home to the last two National League MVPs, with Andrew McCutchen winning in 2013 and Clayton Kershaw in 2014. The Aug. 9 contest marks the finale of their three-game set that weekend. The series is the first meeting between the two clubs this season, with a second matchup scheduled to begin Sept. 18 at Dodger Stadium.
In 2014, the Pirates took five out of seven games against the Dodgers. The two Dodger victories came from the same pitcher, Hyun-Jin Ryu, who is lost for the 2015 campaign with a season-ending shoulder injury.
