Jake Peavy Thinking About Dee Gordon, Dodgers

[new_royalslider id=”24″] Just eight days after completing a three-game series at AT&T Park, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants will meet again for another three-game set with the scene shifting to Chavez Ravine.

One day prior to the highly-anticipated series opener, Ryan Vogelsong went on a Bay Area radio station and said his team was better than the Dodgers. Vogelsong’s claim was supported as the Giants shutout the Dodgers in the first game, only to lose 17-0 the following night and the rubber match to Clayton Kershaw.

Although the Giants have one game remaining with the Arizona Diamondbacks and a series against the San Diego Padres before they’ll travel to Los Angeles, another pitcher discussed the upcoming series.

According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, Jake Peavy was thinking about Dee Gordon shortly after Tuesday’s win:

I’m not going to lie to you,” Peavy said. “I was just in the shower thinking about Dee Gordon. Isn’t that crazy? I was in the shower thinking about how I’m going to get Dee Gordon out.”

Peavy is scheduled to start the series opener Sept. 22 in what will be his second time facing the Dodgers since being traded to the Giants. His first taste at the rivalry was a six-inning effort that ended in a loss for Peavy, who allowed four runs on six hits.

The veteran right-hander lost his first three starts with the Giants, but has since rebounded to 6-1, including four consecutive wins. By taking two of the three games against the Giants, the Dodgers distanced themselves a bit in the division standings, but enter Wednesday with just a three-game lead.

The Dodgers had originally aligned their starting rotation so Hyun-Jin Ryu, Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw would take the ball both in San Francisco and Los Angeles, but Ryu’s injury will likely change that.

Rather than squaring off against Ryu, Peavy presumably will draw rookie Carlos Frias, who starts Wednesday in Ryu’s place.

  1. I hate to say it but the way my Dodgers play at home I am hoping for at least a win versus the Giants. We can’t win in the playoffs playing like we do at home.
