Manuel Margot Opens Up After Being Traded By Dodgers to Twins

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a surprising trade on Monday. The team announced they traded away veteran outfielder Manuel Margot.

Margot was sent to Minnesota alongside infield prospect Rayne Doncon in exchange for infield prospect Noah Miller.

Although many Dodger fans and the baseball world were surprised by the trade, Margot wasn’t. Speaking via an interpreter to The Athletic’s Dan Hayes, Margot said he wasn’t surprised to be traded on Monday morning.

“That’s part of the game. It’s really hard, especially getting adapted. You have to get adapted really quick to the organization you’re going to. … It wasn’t surprising. My lawyer had already told me in the morning that there was a move, that I had to be ready. I was expecting it.”

Monday marked the fourth time Margot was traded in his career. Margot was traded to Los Angeles on Dec. 16 alongside ace Tyler Glasnow.

The right-handed outfielder was traded to Minnesota to make room for the more versatile Kiké Hernández. Shortly after trading away the outfielder, the Dodgers signed Hernández to a one-year deal.

Now, Margot will get accustomed to a new team for the second time in two months.

The 29-year-old only appeared in two games with the Dodgers in spring training. He didn’t record any significant stats in those two games besides striking out once in six at-bats. He did have a live BP home run last week.

Margot is entering the final season of his contract. He is owed $10 million in 2024 with a $2 million buyout of his $12 million club option in 2025. In his career, he’s a .255 hitter with 52 home runs, 283 RBIs, 315 runs, and 91 stolen bases in 788 games.

Trades are the nature of the business. It’s nice to see Margot handling his second trade of the offseason well.
