Three Trades That Won’t Happen For The Dodgers

David Wright

Our voters poll really shows people pulling for Wright. Sorry, its just not going to happen.

The Mets have David Wright locked up this year at 15M and next season at 16M. They have plenty of time this winter to work out an extension and it’s a top priority for the club.

Even if the Mets decided to trade Wright this summer, he has made it clear that he has no interest in negotiating an extension during the season. This will be a turn off for many teams that would want to lock Wright up long term before dealing away the farm to acquire him.

Still holding hope on Wright coming to LA?

The Dodgers just don’t have the prospects to make it happen.

We have Andre Ethier and Clayton Kershaw to worry about locking up and it appears if they put out 150M contract to a new player it will be Cole Hamels.

Carlos Lee

I do see Carlos Lee being available this Summer and wouldn’t mind him being a fall back option for the Dodger, if other players aren’t able to be acquired.

However, Lee makes 18m this season and will be owed 9m+ by the time he’s traded. He has a limited no trade clause to 14 teams, rumored to be major market and/or west coast teams.

Giving up anything more than salary relief and James Loney for Lee makes little sense for the Dodgers. Getting anything less than that makes little sense for Houston.

While I do see this as a possibility, I just don’t see it happening.

Zack Greinke

Again, I expect Zach Greinke to be available this summer, but not an option for the Dodgers.

Picking up a guy like Greinke at the deadline is going to require a nice return.

I feel the Dodgers would be better served getting someone like Ryan Dempster or Wandy Rodriguez and waiting to spend big this winter on Cole Hamels.

Is it possible we make a play for Greinke with no desire to lock him up long term, sure.

I just don’t see it happening.

  1. I agree with you Jordan. If Ethier was to walk, let’s put it this way: If the Dodgers want Hamilton, they’ll get Hamilton.

That said though, I fully expect Andre to remain a Dodger for many years to come.
