For as much as the players were revered during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series seasons in the 1980s, so too was manager Tommy Lasorda.

Before making a name for himself as a manager, Lasorda pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers and was a member of the team that won the 1955 World Series. After bouncing around with other teams for a couple years, he spent his some time in the Dodgers’ Minor League system before being released in 1960.

During his days as manager of the Dodgers’ Lasorda’s fiery demeanor helped instill confidence in his teams and it’s a passion that hasn’t subsided despite his retirement some 18 years ago. Lasorda finished his managerial career with a 1,599-1,439 record; two World Series rings; four National League pennants and eight division titles.

Lasorda’s tenure with the Dodgers organization also includes a stint as general manager in 1998 that lasted just under three months as he was then promoted to Senior Vice President. He now serves as the Special Advisor to the Chairman and is a regular at Dodger home games.

Perhaps not considered the likeliest of candidates to read a fireside story, Lasorda adds to the Christmas spirit as he narrates “Twas The Night Before Christmas” in the video below:
