Contestant #2: Koji Uehara

The Red Sox probably don’t want to be sellers at the deadline, but could end up moving their 39-year-old closer if they decide the playoffs aren’t in their immediate future.

Uehara has been very good, with a 10 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio and an ERA of about 1.5.

What The Red Sox Might Want: Joc Pederson

Boston has some pretty big holes in their outfield and will want an impact bat to fill in at any of the three positions. The Dodgers would be foolish to give up a top prospect for a guy who’s almost 40.

What The Red Sox Might Take: Matt Kemp

Here’s the wildcard. The Dodgers have too many outfielders. The Red Sox desperately need one. Do you want to trade Matt Kemp?

Deal or No Deal: NO DEAL

Right now, Kemp is the third outfielder I would trade after Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford, and there’s a considerable drop off after the first two. The Dodgers would need to get something of value out of Kemp, and a 39-year-old closer is not a sufficient return.
