Trade Deadline: Tigers Reportedly Acquire David Price
The Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees were believed to be among the teams who held discussions with the Rays on their left-hander. With just under 20 minutes remaining before Thursday’s non-waiver trade deadline, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported the Detroit Tigers as the victors in the Price sweepstakes:

According to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, the Price deal is a three-team trade that includes the Seattle Mariners:

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Tigers did not discuss a contract extension with Price before completing the trade:

Price joins a Tigers pitching staff that may lose Max Scherzer in free agency following the 2014 season. However for now, the Tigers boast the last three American League Cy Young award winners.
In total, Price, Jon Lester and John Lackey were the marquee pitchers who were dealt before the deadline. The Philadelphia Phillies held onto both Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee, though either could likely be moved in a waivers deal before August 31.

More and more I’m losing faith in the dodgers organization. I miss the O’Malley’s. Can’t watch the games and Colleti still trying to go for bottom feeders.
They actually played it smart by not mortgaging the future for a rental player. Price would have been possibly worth it, but not for 2 or 3 of our best prospects which is what they were asking for. They are 3 of the top 20 in baseball at that. What the A’s gave up for Lester was a lot for a guy for 2 months. If somehow the Red Sox can resign Lester this off season it is a coup for them. We got 3 of the best starters in baseball and I put our 3 against anyone else in baseball and know we got the best.
