Urias Finding Success With ‘Catch-As-Catch-Can’ Style
Normally, a line that includes six walks is nothing to feel boastful about. When it ends up earning you your first career win, however, then that will do nicely.
Julio Urias, the teenage rookie phenom went up against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday and had a pretty impressive performance, despite giving away six free baserunners. The rest of his line on the night was above average to say the least.
He surrendered only two hits and two runs in six innings pitched and struck out six Brewers to cap off the night. The Dodgers went on to win the game 6-5.
While Urias had a few rough outings in since his debut, his last three starts have shown some serious (and I mean serious) mettle and potential. His last three starts have come against the Brewers (twice) and a potent Nationals lineup. In those 16 innings pitched, he has surrendered only four earned runs total while striking out 20 batters and keeping his ERA at a slender 2.25.
He still needs to find a way to pitch more efficiently, much like Kershaw had to learn in his first years with the Dodgers. It is hard to win when a pitcher cannot get the first pitch across for a strike, but this will come in time.

(That still amazes me.)
The prospect of losing Kershaw for any length of time while the N.L. leading San Francisco Giants are scalding hot is enough to give any Dodgers fan anxiety. However, Urias does provide a silver lining to that dark cloud should it cast a shadow on a pretty wild season to this point.
