VIDEO: Alex Guerrero Hits Three-Run Home Run In Debut With Isotopes

Cuban infielder Alex Guerrero seems to be completely recovered from an oblique injury suffered days before Opening Night against the San Diego Padres. He was added to the Triple-A roster on Saturday and played in his first game for the Albuquerque Isotopes on Sunday. The 27-year-old wasted no time getting back in the rhythm of the game as he went 3-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer in an 8-3 loss to the Tacoma Rainiers.

Guerrero worked his magic in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Clay Rapada gave up a leadoff double to Nick Buss, he hit Mike Baxter with a pitch, putting runners on first and second with Guerrero coming up to bat with no outs. Already with a double in his previous at-bat, Guerrero blasted a three-run home-run to right field putting the Isotopes on the scoreboard for the first time all game.

When Guerrero initially signed his four-year, $28 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in October, he was expected to be the team’s starting second baseman. However, as a natrual shortstop, Guerrero needed more training in fielding at second base. The fielding deficiencies combined with injuries, landed him on the Triple-A roster as Dee Gordon and Justin Turner took over for the platoon at second. With Gordon doing a tremendous job so far at second, the organization does not need to rush Guerrero up to the majors, which will give the infielder the much needed practice in the minors to perfect his fielding.
